Principal's Corner: Support with Bullying

As I was recently scrolling through Facebook, I came across an anonymous post that stopped me in my tracks:

“I am having a hard time with my 9th grader at WCA High School. It’s rigorous, and that doesn’t help for sure—and he’s 15, so hormones, etc.—but the bullying is making it impossible to get through the day. Anyone else experience this? Anyone else have this problem? Anyone switched schools and successfully overcome this?”

Reading this was heartbreaking. As the High School Director, I want to be very clear: we care deeply about every student’s experience, and no student should ever be bullied at school.

I was encouraged to see how many people in the comments urged the parent to reach out to the school administration or our counseling team. I sincerely hope they have connected with someone at Windsor Charter Academy. And if you are reading this and haven’t yet, please know—it is never too late to reach out.

I also understand the hesitation. Situations involving bullying or social struggles can be painful, complicated, and overwhelming. Knowing where to start can feel daunting. What I want families to know is this: we cannot help if we don’t know what is happening. Bullying often occurs in moments and places adults don’t see, and we rely on students and parents to share concerns so we can intervene thoughtfully and effectively.

We have resources, supports, and intervention strategies that can be put in place immediately. Please know that we will never take action without working directly with you and your student. Our goal is always to partner with families and create a plan that feels safe, supportive, and appropriate for your child.

Every student deserves to feel safe, supported, and valued at school. If your student is experiencing academic challenges, social concerns, bullying, or any other school-related issue, I encourage you to reach out to me directly at mia.dellanini@windsorcharteracademy.org. You will be heard, and we will work together to find a path forward.
