We are excited to spotlight our high school departments, allowing students and families to learn more about the outstanding staff who support our Firebirds every day. This month, we are highlighting our incredible science teachers!
Stephanie Fitzpatrick - Biology, Anatomy, and Physiology Teacher
Mrs. Fitzpatrick holds a Bachelor of Science in Biological Science and a Master of Education, and has been teaching for eight years at Windsor Charter Academy. She has taught various science courses, including life science, earth and space science, genetics, and physics, as well as other classes. Her favorite classroom activities are frog dissections and stem cell labs - she loves the hands-on learning experience and how excited the students become to participate and overcome their fears! Mrs. Fitzpatrick feels students learn best with clear expectations and classroom routines, and her focus this year is to provide targeted student support during ELO. She loves camping, hiking, traveling, and trying baking experiments she has seen on the Great British Baking Show!
Amanda Hollar - Chemistry Teacher
Mrs. Hollar has ten years of teaching experience, five of them at Windsor Charter Academy, teaching high school and college-level science classes. She earned a Bachelor and Master of Science in Biochemistry, along with a graduate teaching certificate. She enjoys connecting with students, building rapport with them, and helping them grow in their knowledge, character, and exploring future career opportunities. Mrs. Hollar enjoys finding the balance between teaching rigorous content, high expectations, and having fun with the students. This year, she is focusing on time management and critical thinking skills with her students. She loves to spend time with her family, travel, backpack, read, and is learning to play the classical guitar.
Shirley Davis - Earth & Space Science, Planetary & Stellar Astronomy Teacher
Mrs. Davis is affectionately known as “the Moon Lady” and provides regular updates to the entire staff on all things related to the moon. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Astronomy and Space Studies. Mrs. Davis has been teaching for five years and brings an authentic, engaging, and energetic approach to her teaching. She believes that a successful year is one in which students can make connections beyond the classroom, which she hopes to achieve this year by elevating her instruction to provide students with rich learning experiences. She encourages critical thinking and the use of scientific inquiry, inspiring them to ask questions and seek answers. Mrs. Davis is also the head coach of the Middle School Cheer team and loves coaching this enthusiastic yet rigorous sport!
Amber Sullivan - Earth & Space Science, Physics, and Engineering Teacher
Mrs. Sullivan is in her 3rd year at Windsor Charter Academy, but has over 14 years of experience teaching science courses. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Multidisciplinary Science Studies. She recognizes that science can be complex and challenging at times, but loves the opportunity to teach students to think more deeply and ask many questions. At the end of the year, Mrs. Sullivan hopes that her students find enjoyment in some area of science and feel prepared to move on to their next course. She is also a photographer and loves capturing photos of newborns, children, and families.
