As you know, CMAS is right around the corner. While these assessments are just one way schools measure learning, they can sometimes make students feel nervous. The good news is that a little preparation and encouragement at home can go a long way in helping your child feel confident and ready to do their best!
Here are a few simple ways you can support your child during testing:
Prioritize sleep. A good night’s sleep helps students stay focused and think clearly during testing.
Start the day with breakfast. A healthy breakfast gives the brain energy to concentrate and problem-solve.
Keep routines consistent. Maintaining regular routines before and during testing helps students feel calm and prepared.
Encourage effort, not perfection. Remind your child that the goal is simply to try their best. These tests do not define who they are or what they are capable of.
Help reduce stress. Encourage relaxing activities after school, such as going outside, reading, or spending time with family.
In addition, remind your child of helpful test-taking strategies, such as reading questions carefully, taking their time, and taking deep breaths if they start to feel nervous.
Most importantly, remind students that we are proud of their hard work all year long! Testing is just one small snapshot of their learning.
