Community Engagement Expectations

At Windsor Charter Academy, strong partnerships between staff and families are built on mutual respect, clear communication, and a shared commitment to student success. Our Community Engagement Expectations outline how our Firebird Family works together — with kindness, professionalism, and trust.

Respectful Communication: All communication — by email, phone, or in person — must remain respectful, courteous, and constructive. Windsor Charter Academy maintains a zero-tolerance policy for disrespectful or inappropriate behavior directed at staff. Our teachers, support staff, and administrators are dedicated professionals who work each day to serve students and families with care, professionalism, and respect.
Response Time: Non-emergency calls and emails will be acknowledged within two school days. If a follow-up appointment is needed, an appointment will be scheduled as soon as reasonably possible.
Appointments for Meaningful Conversations: Important concerns deserve face-to-face conversations. Scheduled appointments give all parties adequate time to prepare, research, and gather facts beforehand. As with any professional organization, meetings with staff or administrators must be scheduled in advance — instructional responsibilities and existing commitments mean we cannot accommodate walk-in meetings or last-minute schedule changes.
Chain of Communication: Most concerns are best resolved through direct conversation between the people involved. We ask that families raise concerns with the relevant staff member first, rather than escalating immediately. The Chain of Communication is found in our WCA Parent/Student Handbook. Strong partnerships are built on assuming positive intent, asking the right questions to the right people, and working toward understanding together.
Campus Safety: A safe, respectful campus is our top priority. Individuals who behave disrespectfully, aggressively, or inappropriately on campus may receive a warning, have visitation privileges restricted, or face further action depending on the circumstances. As outlined in WCA Executive Board Policy KI, visiting our campuses is a privilege, and we are committed to protecting every student and staff member.
Boundaries Between Work and Personal Life: Staff and families deserve clear boundaries between professional responsibilities and personal time. Conversations should stay focused on the matter at hand, and sensitive topics should be addressed privately rather than in community settings.
Our Shared Expectation: We expect every interaction in our school community to reflect these norms. Together, they help protect a school environment where students thrive, families are respected, and staff can focus on doing their best work.
