Counselor Corner

This school year is flying by! As we gear up for our first middle school dance of the year, it can bring a mix of excitement, nerves, and curiosity- for both students and parents. For sixth-grade students, it’s often one of the first experiences they have at a more independent social event at school, and it’s normal for both kids and parents to have questions!

Families can help their child feel more comfortable by talking through what to expect — things like what to wear (the theme is bright neon and glow gear), how to ask a friend to go, or that it’s perfectly okay to attend solo and hang out with friends once there. Encourage your student to see the dance as a fun, social activity, not something to stress over.

Remind your student that school staff and chaperones will be there to help make sure everyone is included and having an amazing time. Most importantly, let them know it’s okay to just be themselves and have fun. These experiences help build confidence, social skills, and lasting memories.

Advisory Class

This month in advisory class, our students will be learning about communication, spreading rumors and gossip, and cyber bullying. Students will also have a fun lesson from our Sources of Strength Peer Leaders, and one from our Student Ambassadors!

We are also looking forward to our first CREWS Day (if you aren’t familiar with CREWS, your student will fill you in)! Sixth-grade students will also be experiencing their first, fun assembly for this year!
