The Firebird Facility: 2022 Bond & Mill Levy Override

Windsor Charter Academy’s $18M Firebird Facility is a part of Weld RE-4 School District’s $271M bond measure and $5M mill levy override. Ballot issues 4B and 4C were both passed on the November 2022 ballot! The Firebird Facility includes a gymnasium for physical education and athletics, additional classrooms and learning spaces, a high school commons area, a soccer field, and expanded parking. Thank you, voters, for making the Firebird Facility a reality for our community, students, and staff!

The Firebird Facility

The Firebird Facility will impact students in several ways:

  • New classrooms and learning spaces will provide students with additional course options and expanded learning opportunities.

  • Currently, two schools share a single gym space, which is unlike other area schools. On any given day, two PE classes utilize one gym space at the same time. By adding gym space, the middle and high school will each have their own gym.

  • Windsor Charter Academy Early College High School was recently approved to participate in the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) which requires our school to have competitive gym and field spaces. By expanding our facilities, students will play on regulation-sized basketball and volleyball courts, as well as on an expanded soccer field.

  • Currently, our middle and high school sports teams share a single gym for all sports practices. Teams have to travel to the elementary school to use their gym for practices. Having additional gym space will allow students to practice using the facilities at their own school.

  • A high school commons area will allow for students to have additional meeting spaces for learning and socializing.

  • Increasing high school enrollment means an increase in the number of high school drivers. Expanded parking will alleviate parking constraints.

Windsor Charter Academy & Weld RE-4 School District

Windsor Charter Academy has a strong relationship with the Weld RE-4 School District, our authorizing district. Strong relationships between charter schools and authorizing districts are rare, and charter schools are not often included in district bond initiatives. Windsor Charter Academy’s inclusion on previous bond initiatives, and within the current proposed package, is a testament to our long-standing, positive partnership with Weld RE-4 School District.
