Author of TLAC, Doug Lemov, writes, “One of our most important goals as teachers is to cause students to do as much of the cognitive work -- the writing, the thinking, the analyzing, the talking -- as possible.” In this session, participants will learn teaching techniques that increase students’ participation ratio through questioning in order to get all students involved in speaking, responding to questions, thinking actively, participating on cue, and processing ideas in writing.  In addition, participants will become more familiar with explicit vocabulary instruction and the Word Learning Strategy to provide students with access to content-specific academic language to enhance scholarly discourse.
